Home > Resetting the Netscape or Mozilla Web browsers

Your copy of Netscape or Mozilla may have settings which will not allow you to access the Members-only section of the CFS site.

Here are a list of “fixes” for Netscape & Mozilla which should help you access the Members-only area of CFS, and also improve access to other sites. If you do not already have the latest version you should update your copy before making these changes. This will also ensure that you have all the latest security and bug fixes. CFS uses Mozilla almost exclusively and is our browser of choice.

TIP:If you print this page you can have a hard copy beside you when you check the settings.

Resetting Netscape/Mozilla

These are the settings for Netscape 7.1 and Mozilla 1.6 but can be used for most other versions.

Go to the "Edit" menu at the top left of your browser window and then down to the "Preferences" listing. Click on the plus (+) sign next to the section labelled "Advanced". Check the following settings:

  1. Go to the section marked “Proxies”. Ensure that the top option is checked (“Direct connection to the Internet”).
  2. Go to “Cache” and make sure that in the section which says “Compare the page in the cache to the page on the network” and make sure that the button marked “Every time I view the page” is checked. Click OK to lock in that preference.
Now go back to the main "Preferences" menu and click on the plus (+) sign next to the section labelled "Privacy & Security".
  1. Go to the "Cookies" section and ensure that the button marked "Enable cookies based on privacy settings" is checked. Click on the "View" button and make sure that "Medium" is selected.

  2. Go to the "Popup Windows" section and check the settings. In most cases checking the "Block unrequested popup windows" box will not affect being able to access the CFS site but, if you wish to block ads on other sites and think that it could be the reason why you are not accessing CFS, click on the "Allowed sites" box and insert "www.completelyfreesoftware.com" (without the quotation marks). Click the "Add" button. You might wish to try it with the ads blocked but without specifying the CFS domain first to see if that has cured your access problem. You can always come back to that point and add it later. Click on OK button to save those preferences, and click OK again to exit that section.
Now you have made the changes, close down the “Preferences” box by clicking on the OK button and restart your Netscape or Mozilla browser.

If changing these settings do not fix your access problems, please write to CFS for more assistance. Please mention exactly which browser you have, and also the version number (found in the "Help" section of the menu and scroll down to the "About..." section).

The Key To Life?
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.”
